The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for design, cost reduction, qualification, continuous improvement and cross functional support for all packaging and crating throughout Heatcraft Refrigeration Products.
This engineer also designs, fabricates, modifies and evaluates complex mechanical and electro-mechanical components, sub-systems and systems. The person in this position may also provide work leadership for lower level employees.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Collaborate with product engineers to design packaging and crating that meets requirements for protection against freight and handling damage, handling throughout the distribution chain, signage/warnings/marking, compliance with required transit testing and standards, and cost targets.
Perform comprehensive assessments of packaging and crating to develop improvement strategies which optimize cost, prevent or mitigate damage to products and packaging, satisfy customer requests for improvements and tolerate conditions of storage, shipping and handling.
Be a hands-on resource to implement solutions identified, leveraging corporate, supplier and contracted resources to maximize output.
Prepare design specifications, analyses and recommendations for presentation and approval.
Technical responsibility for planning, organizing and conducting technical projects or phases of projects involving design and development.
Coordinate the efforts of drafters/designers, engineering technicians and machine shop personnel as required by assigned projects.
Conduct independent technical investigations involving the origination or modification of material.
Through these various activities, you will bring about a portfolio of packaging and crating that is cost-optimized and in a state of continuous improvement. Responsibilities will include developing/controlling internal Packaging/Crating standards for Heatcraft Refrigeration Products.
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering.
Requires at least 5 years related experience.
Understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
Experience with analytical and CAD software.
Requires knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
